Seeing How The Southern Half Lives - From Naples, Italy to Palermo, Sicily Since I've driven down the Amalfi Coast, I wanted to ride a bike along it. I also have a fascination with the history of Sicily. From the ancient Greeks to the Romans and Carthaginians to the Allies of WWII, Sicily has been in the center of things for thousands of years. Lastly, after riding around Northern Italy, I wanted to experience the southern half, as well.

I decided to fly into Naples and it took over 24 real hours to get there from San Francisco via London and Rome. An alternative I considered was flying into Rome, assembling the bike, and taking the train down to Naples. But, in the end, I opted for flying. It is hard to say which option was the better one.

You can see the plans I made for this tour, including a detailed itinerary, places I stayed and other information I found useful.

I marked my progress throughout the tour with the Track My Tour app on my phone. Here is the track I created.
