Biking the Balkans and dawdling in the Dolomites A loop ride from Venice that actually started in Trieste. I went through a sliver of Slovenia and then into Croatia. After heading inland to the incomparable Plitvice National Park, I rode north through Croatia and then into Slovenia. I visited caves, checked out Ljubljana, saw stunning lakes, and climbed the fabulous Vrsic Pass.

I rode from Slovenia into Italy to discover the Giro d'Italia riding through the same area. To avoid the accommodation problems the Giro brought with it, I took a bus part way into the mountains and then rode from there to the heart of the Eastern Dolomites.

I dawdled in the Dolomites for an extra day to watch the Giro d'Italia ride right by the street I was staying on.

You can see the route I rode here at trackmytour.com. You can see the detailed planning I did for this tour here.
