When I ride a bike, on tour or locally, I generally listen to audio books. I like audio books for two major reasons. First, I only need one earbud to hear it, which means I can keep my traffic-side ear open for road noises. Second, I get exposed to dozens of books a year, way more than if I only read them.

The key to a good audio book, in my view, is not only the subject matter and the quality of the writing, but also how well the book is read. In fact, there are some less interesting books that are brought to life by a particularly good reader.

I almost exclusively listen to non-fiction. It isn't that I don't like fiction, it is more that I see it as a treat and listening to dozens of fiction books a year would be too much for me.

I get these books from the San Francisco Library, which has a fabulous audio book collection and rip them to my MP3 player for use on my bike.

I know that other people listen to audio books when they ride and I thought a thread identifying books that I (and others) have found interesting would be useful to the community.

I've listed each recommended book in a separate comment to this thread.
