A ride across Western Europe from Amsterdam to Passau, Germany Friends of ours had planned a boat and bike ride down the Danube and invited us along. The boat departed from Passau in Southeast Germany. The others would take a train there. I decided to ride to Passau, starting in Amsterdam.

Germany is known for its river paths. But, I don't particularly enjoy riding down rivers with their unending water and agricultural views. Instead, I plotted a route that took me across The Netherlands, south along the German border to the Bavarian Alps, and then east through the Alps to Passau.

Not only is riding through the mountains of Southern Germany and Austria fabulous, but I was able to check several countries of Western Europe off my "visited" list!

As usual, I did extensive planning for this trip. I also created a track of the route I rode.
