Riding in river valleys in Italy and Switzerland In July, 2023, I flew to Venice and drove with friends to Ponte nelle Alpi, Italy. We rode to Trento via the Piave and Brenta River valleys. From Trento, I started a loop that climbed north to the Passo di Resia and into Austria and Switzerland. In Switzerland, I rode up the Engaden (Inn River) valley to the Maloja Pass via Scuol, Zernez, and St. Moritz and back into Italy. From Switzerland, I rode down to Lake Como, along its northeast edge and then up its side to the Valsassina. Over the Passo Culmine di San Pietro, I rode down into the valley of the Brembo River, past San Pellegrino, and into Bergamo. From there, I rode to Lago d'Iseo on my way to Brescia and then to Desenzano del Garda on that lake's banks.

You can see the planning I did for this tour and the route I'd planned to ride. Actual tracks ridden will be linked in each day's entry.

I enjoy riding along and taking photos of water, whether oceans, lakes, rivers, streams, or waterfalls. You will see lots of those in this journal! Often, in Europe, there are dedicated bike paths along waterways, which makes biking on them even more enjoyable.
