Oceano Dunes State Park is listed in popular guidebook: Bicycling the Pacific Coast as a place with a hiker/biker site. This is no longer true as the hiker/biker site at Oceano has been closed.

Since there no longer is a hiker/biker site at Oceano, you will now have to reserve a spot in advance in order to insure getting a place to camp. You will be changed the normal camping fee.

There is no other place around Oceano that offers a hiker/biker site. So, you will either get a reservation at Oceano Dunes State Park, stay in another campground around there (there are several), or stay in a motel. There is no inexpensive option for bike tourist.

One option might be the hostel in San Luis Obispo, about 20 miles north of Oceano, which is inexpensive and very close to downtown. Here is the hostel's website.
